LB Hamilton talks USC offer, decision date
By Blair Angulo
While USC has offered scholarships to only nine in-state prospects thus far in the 2014 recruiting cycle, the coaching staff has been very aggressive in other regions, namely the Southeast.
Wednesday, ESPN Watch List inside linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton (Montgomery, Ala./Carver) became the latest out-of-state recruit to receive an offer from the Trojans.
"It's an honor, a blessing," Hamilton said. "It's a big offer, because it's not just from a school down South. To get an offer from a program with that tradition is great. Every year, they are one of those national programs like Notre Dame and Michigan that will be at the top. I've been in contact with coach Tee Martin the last few weeks, and he told me (Wednesday) he knew he was going to offer me the whole time, but coach Lane Kiffin wanted to see my film first. I've been watching USC ever since they had Carson Palmer, LenDale White and Rey Maualuga, so it's been a while. I've been on USC hard."
Hamilton has a final seven of Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Tennessee, UCLA and USC. He is set to make a decision on April 17 at his high school.
"It's going to be a hat ceremony," he said.
Hamilton intends to visit Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee before his decision date and is scheduled to take a trip to Los Angeles for the USC Rising Stars Camp in late June. He hopes to see UCLA while he's in town.
"I'm making a commitment to a school, but I'm still going to take visits," Hamilton said. "I definitely need to look closely at the places I'm going to."
Hamilton spoke to the entire USC coaching staff on Wednesday and is excited the Trojans are recruiting him hard.
"They like me as a linebacker, one that can make plays, run to the football and play in space," Hamilton said. "Coach Kiffin told me I know how to deliver the big hit."
