Watch List RB Mixon adds another offer
By Blair Angulo
LOS ANGELES -- There might not be another prospect nationwide who has had a hot streak quite like ESPN Watch List running back Joe Mixon (Oakley, Calif./Freedom) in February.
The scholarship offers have rolled in daily from schools across the country, including six from the SEC. Mixon made the drive south to Los Angeles this weekend with 35 offers in tow.
USC provided No. 36 on Sunday while he attended the Trojans' junior day.
“It’s a big one to pick up, for sure,” Mixon said. “I’m glad I got the offer. It was expected, kind of, but it feels like I’ve been waiting for it so long.”
The fact that Mixon was notified of his offer in person made a bit more special than some others, he said. But the dynamic playmaker was never tempted to commit.
“We had a good talk,” Mixon said. “The coaches talked about their use of running backs in a pro-style offense. To me, it really doesn’t matter what offense a program has. It won’t make a difference in my decision.”
Mixon hopes to narrow his long list to 10 or 15 schools in a month or two and already has a time frame in mind.
“I plan on committing at an All-American game next year,” Mixon said. "I'm going to look at schools and really go through the process.”
