WeAreSC recruiting mailbag

By Blair Angulo

WeAreSC recruiting reporter Blair Angulo answers reader questions in his mailbag every Friday. Have a USC recruiting question of your own? Submit it via Twitter @WeAreSCstaff.

Jeff (Encino, Calif.): Any visitors this weekend?

Kylie Fitts
USC target Kylie Fitts is expected to stop by USC on Sunday after his Utah official.
Angulo: There aren’t any official visitors scheduled this week. Kylie Fitts is expected to visit campus on Sunday following his official trip to Utah.

Longtime commit Nico Falah unofficially visited campus last weekend when the coaching staff was out of town recruiting, so he might make the short drive to catch up. Falah denied he will unofficially visit Washington this weekend.

Five-star DT Eddie Vanderdoes, a major priority for the Trojans, will trip to Alabama as the Crimson Tide look to land another impact lineman. He will announce his decision on Wednesday at 5 p.m. PT.

motovich (Torrance, Calif.): The USC D moves to a 3-4 scheme, what effect is that going to have on defensive line recruits? DL playing time is going to be cut with so many bodies, and we may be 4-5 deep at some DL positions.

Angulo: The change actually appears to help USC with its defensive end recruits, Jason Hatcher and Torrodney Prevot. Both are big enough to rush off the edge yet athletic enough to line up at one of the outside linebacker spots in somewhat of a hybrid role. It’s no secret that the Trojans could have played better inside last season, and Kenny Bigelow recently told WeAreSC he’s excited about the opportunity to make an impact right away. Coach Ed Orgeron has used it as a selling point.

Deejay (Diamond Bar, Calif.): We really have a legitimate shot at landing A'Shawn Robinson? Has CLK responded to the Kylie Fitts situation? He's being blasted by how he’s handled the situation. Are there any Oregon targets USC is contacting now due to the recent developments in Eugene, and are there any other recruits being looked at to round out this class in the wake of the vast number of decommits?

Angulo: A’Shawn Robinson does have interest in USC and Alabama, but the Texas commit is very likely stay close to home. On the topic of Fitts, coach Lane Kiffin and the rest of the staff are not allowed to publicly address prospective recruits or their recruitments, so an explanation has not been made.

Oregon commits Tyree Robinson and Tyrell Robinson visited campus on Jan. 18, but Tyree said the dual-sport standouts will likely sign with the Ducks.

Tony Capone (via @tcapone87): How good is Myles Jack, the LB from Washington going to UCLA. Why didn’t SC make a run for him?

Angulo: Jack was good enough to earn a U.S. Army All-American Bowl invite, and he was the star player on arguably the top high school team in the country, Bellevue. For a long time, USC appeared content with only one linebacker in the recruiting class, Michael Hutchings. But Florida-based linebackers Quinton Powell and Matthew Thomas are still possibilities for the Trojans as they look to add more defensive depth.
