Louisville QB commit after Jason Hatcher
By Dave Hooker
Kyle Bolin has helped land one Louisville commitment. He's now after another.
Four-star receiver Charles Williams from Hialeah (Fla.) Champagnat committed to Louisville earlier this month, in part, at Bolin's behest. Bolin, a Cardinals commitment from Lexington (Ky.) Lexington Catholic, was often extolling the virtues of Louisville to Williams. The two took their official visits to Louisville on Jan. 18.
"It was a blast," Bolin said of the visit. "The coaches put together a great schedule for us and it was nice being able to meet with most of the commits and their families, along with some other great targets."
One of those top targets is defensive end Jason Hatcher from Louisville (Ky.) Trinity. Hatcher committed to USC last summer but has since taken an official visit to Kentucky and is scheduled to taken an official visit to Louisville on Feb. 1.
"I honestly don't know," Bolin said when asked if Louisville will land Hatcher. "I think we have done all we can do and it comes down to whether or not he feels that Louisville is the best place for him. He's a good friend of mine and I'd love to see him join the team, so we'll just have to wait and see."
Hatcher is ranked the No. 182 prospect nationally. The four-star prospect is the No. 3 prospect in the state. His former high school teammate, James Quick, has committed to Louisville.
There were reports Hatcher backed off his pledge from USC last week, but he hasn't commented since a tweet he posted on his account last Tuesday - that has since been removed - said, "I official de-committed from USC #WideOpen." He took an official visit to Kentucky on Jan. 11 and is scheduled to take an official visit to Louisville this weekend. Hatcher has declined to talk to the media since the latest twist in his recruiting.
"I think he's giving everyone the cold shoulder right now until he figures out what he is doing," Bolin said.
Bolin is rated the No. 6 prospect in Kentucky. The Cardinals have 15 commitments for the 2013 class.
