CB Jaleel Wadood reacts to USC-UCLA

By Blair Angulo

ESPN Watch List cornerback Jaleel Wadood (Bellflower, Calif./St. John Bosco) has emerged as one of the top Class of 2014 recruits in Southern California this fall. He burst onto the scene last year at Lakewood (Calif.) before transferring to St. John Bosco, which recently won its first-ever Trinity League title. On Friday night, Bosco advanced to the CIF Southern Section Pac-5 Division semifinals.

On Saturday, Wadood attended UCLA's 38-28 victory against crosstown rival USC at the Rose Bowl.

"It was a great experience," said Wadood, who has offers from Arizona State, Colorado and Oregon State. "It was my first UCLA-USC game. There were a lot of people there going crazy. I haven't heard much from USC this year. I've kind of waiting for them to talk to me. UCLA has sent me letters. I'm hoping to talk to both."

Wadood was joined in Pasadena by high school teammate Malik Dorton, a defensive end who has offers from Utah and Utah State. The atmosphere, as well as the first Bruins win against the Trojans since 2006, might have a noticeable impact in the recruitment of the city's talent, Wadood said.

"UCLA has had a strong year, and I think it's going to be big for their recruiting," Wadood said. "A lot of people didn't think the coaches would turn around the program this quickly, so the win was definitely a boost. They will definitely start getting more guys. It was a convincing win. I think it did a lot."
