Helmet Stickers: Top performers on Oct. 5
By Blair Angulo
A look at this week’s top USC recruit performances:
Ty Isaac (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy): What bum shoulder? Isaac’s stellar 219-yard effort Friday night laid to rest any questions surrounding the USC running back commit’s health. Isaac, who recently said he’d be cautious with an ailing right shoulder, carried the ball 30 times in Joliet Catholic Academy’s 31-24 overtime triumph against Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel. His only touchdown came on his final carry, a five-yard scamper in overtime that proved to be the game-winner.
Steven Mitchell (Mission Hills, Calif./Alemany): The USC receiver commit had seven catches for 78 yards and added a dazzling, nine-yard touchdown run in Friday night’s thrilling 49-42 league victory against visiting Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame. On the touchdown run, Mitchell broke left before stopping, reversing field and cruising into the end zone.
Sebastian LaRue (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica): After losing three consecutive games, Larue and Santa Monica returned to their winning ways Friday night. The USC receiver commit had 42 yards and a touchdown on offense, an interception on defense and a punt return for a score on special teams in a 35-20 league victory over Inglewood (Calif.) Morningside.
Max Browne (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline): The future Trojans quarterback had a typical performance on Friday night, throwing for three touchdowns in Skyline’s blowout 64-17 win against Seattle Ballard. Through three league games, Skyline has averaged nearly 63 points and outscored opponents 188-47. It appears that Browne is on his way to a state title.
Justin Davis (Stockton, Calif./Lincoln): Davis had three touchdown runs in the first quarter before taking the rest of the night off in Lincoln’s easy 55-0 thumping of Stockton (Calif.) Bear Creek.
