USC commit Jason Hatcher making visits
By Jared Shanker
INDIANAPOLIS -- Louisville (Ky.) Trinity defensive end and Jason Hatcher committed to USC two months ago and is adamant that he is solid to the Trojans, but the ESPN 300 prospect wants to take all five of his official visits.
Hatcher, ranked the nation's No. 288 overall recruit by ESPN, committed to USC over Florida, Louisville and Tennessee, and he plans to visit two of those other programs. One more school is definitely in the running, and he is looking for a fourth to complete his five visits, with USC getting the last one.
"I've been talking to Florida. I know I'll probably go up to Ohio State. I know I'm going to USC. Those are the only ones I know for sure," he said. "I'll probably go to Tennessee as well."
The 6-foot-2, 240-pound defensive lineman has talked with the coaches at USC and they encouraged him to take his visits.
Hatcher sat down this month and watched the Florida-Tennessee game, and he liked what he saw from both programs -- enough that he wants to take a closer look at each.
"I know Florida has a great class coming in along with USC, and they're doing a lot of stuff that I like, with getting to the quarterback," Hatcher said. "I like some of the things I saw with Tennessee. Tennessee was a school I was looking hard at, probably my second or third choice when I made my decision."
Hatcher's teammate James Quick, No. 57 in the ESPN 150, will visit Ohio State soon, and Hatcher said Quick's interest in Ohio State has helped renew his as well.
"I wouldn't say [Quick's interest] is the root of it, but I visited Ohio State a few times with the new staff. I like Urban Meyer up there as the new coach," Hatcher said. "I guess you could say it might have a slight effect on it, just a slight one."
Hatcher was instrumental in a close win this past Friday, keeping Trinity undefeated and at No. 3 in the ESPN 25 Power Rankings.
