Wadood to pick from West Coast top three
By Tom VanHaaren
LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- At one point in his recruitment, athlete Jaleel Wadood (Bellflower, Calif./St. John Bosco) was committed to Arizona State. Now the Sun Devils find themselves outside of his top three, only days before the four-star prospect makes his commitment announcement at The Opening.
Wadood has narrowed his list to UCLA, USC and Cal over offers from Arizona State, Colorado, Nebraska, Oregon, Utah, Vanderbilt and Washington among others.
The four-star prospect broke down why each school has made it into his top list:
USC: "Me, being from California, it's a big thing to get an offer from USC and live in California. It's a hometown thing. They're a great school with great tradition, and it's right in my backyard."
UCLA: "I like their coaching staff a lot. Coach [Demetrice] Martin is a great guy and I like how they flipped the whole program around last year. So there's a lot to like about UCLA."
Cal: "They had a tough season last year, but I like what they're doing with the new coaches. I went on a visit there, and it looks like they're trying to turn things around, so it's a good school."
His high school teammate Naijiel Hale is committing on the same day out at the prestigious event, and the two are anxiously awaiting each other's decision.
"Naijiel hasn't told me where he's going yet. I want to know, too," he said. "We'll see; once I make my decision, I'm going to try to recruit, though. Hopefully [Oakley (Calif.) Freedom RB] Joe Mixon and then my other teammate Damien Mama."
