ESPN 300 RB Freeman talks top four
By Derek Tyson
LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- ESPN 300 running back Royce Freeman (Imperial, Calif./Imperial) is starting to narrow things down. The four-star running back announced schools that have started to stand out above the rest.
"I have four top schools," Freeman said. "I like USC, UCLA, Florida and Oregon."
ESPN 300 RB Royce Freeman has USC, UCLA, Oregon and Florida at the top of his list for now.
Freeman talked about what he likes in each school.
USC: "The tradition at the school is great and they have had some top running backs come out of there."
UCLA: "They have good academics and they have had a lot of guys go to the NFL from there."
Florida: "I like talking to coach [Brian] White. He's a cool guy. He explains a lot about the school and he's coached some great players in the past."
Oregon: "It's a nice place. We are here right now. The people are great and they know how to get their running backs the ball. They have a tradition and a staple of playing guys early in their career."
Freeman recently took an unofficial visit to Oregon and came away impressed with what he experienced.
"It was great," Freeman said. "They treated me very well. I just learned a lot about the school and from the coaches about how they would use me."
Florida, unlike his other top schools, is on the other side of the country. Freeman said it will come down to how comfortable he is moving that far away from his family.
"It's probably just going to be a decision I'll have to make myself, like whether I'm comfortable about going that far away from my family. It's just something I'll have to decide," he said.
Freeman has no official visits planned and said he will make a decision when he feels comfortable enough to do so.
"Just personally, it will come down to what I feel is right and when I feel it's right," he said. "It's going to be a school I just want to go to."
