The winter dead period has started for college football recruiting, and it’s time to take a look at the remaining targets on USC’s list to see where they stand.
The Trojans currently have 16 commits with a reported maximum of 18 spots -- three early enrollees spots who would count against the Class of 2012 and 15 spots against the Class of 2013.
Here are updates on the remaining players on the USC wish list:
DB Max Redfield: After Redfield decommitted from USC earlier this fall, it was assumed he would end up elsewhere, most likely at Notre Dame. The Trojan coaches made a strong run in recent weeks, but based upon his comments in recent days it would be an upset if he didn’t choose the Irish. Redfield plans to announce at the Under Armour All-America game.
DB Leon McQuay III: It has been a methodical process for McQuay, who is very interested in music production and has gone to great lengths to research how each of his potential schools can help in that area. With his visits now complete, McQuay will look to make his announcement at the Under Armour game with a goal of enrolling for the spring at his school of choice. His five visits were to USC, Michigan, Vanderbilt, Oregon and Florida State, while the new staff at South Florida is making a late pitch as well.
OL Desmond Harrison: The Trojans got a visit this past weekend from Harrison and they made his final short list along with Texas, Oklahoma and ASU. Harrison will decide in late January and will not enroll until next fall.
DT A’Shawn Robinson: The Texas verbal commit has been quiet in recent weeks since his visit to USC earlier this month. There have been conflicting stories about Robinson, with some reports indicating that USC is the one school that could tempt him to change his verbal, while others close to him think he was just visiting USC for a trip to Los Angeles.
LB Trey Johnson: Scheduled for a visit to USC on Jan. 17 but does not list USC in his top five.
LB Quinton Powell: The Florida decommit has said USC is a school he would consider but so far no visit has been confirmed. Powell attends the same high school as USC defensive lineman Leonard Williams.
LB Matthew Thomas: Scheduled for a visit to USC on January 17.
DB Tahaan Goodman: There is always a chance Goodman could still end up in the USC class. There is too much mutual interest to rule that out. Goodman has a recent top three of UCLA, LSU and USC.
DB Priest Willis: Probably even more of a long shot than Goodman, but you just never know what can happen in recruiting. The Trojans were not in the most recent top seven list for Willis.
DL Carl Lawson: Did some wavering after the Auburn coaching change and talked about making an SC visit, but those plans are unclear at this point.
DL Montravius Adams: USC defensive line coach Ed Orgeron has been making a push for Adams and the Trojans could get the final official visit. Consider this one an extreme long shot.
