GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Despite Florida's impressive 11-1 record this season and likely BCS bowl berth, there are a few committed recruits who are still looking at other options.
Florida linebacker commit Quinton Powell (Daytona Beach, Fla./Mainland) has been committed to the Gators since Feb. 18, but is now considering Miami and Southern Cal.
"I haven't set any dates or talked to any coaches yet," Powell said, "but I plan on going to USC and Miami."
Powell, though, remains committed to Florida despite wanting to see other schools. He says he wants to compare other schools to what Florida has to offer.
"I feel the same way about Florida as I did before, but until I take those official visits I just won't know," Powell said.
The athletic outside linebacker said he has kept the Florida coaching staff informed of his intentions and will continue to do so.
"They are fine with it," Powell said of the Florida coaching staff. "They just want to know when I figure out when I'm going."
Powell, who will be visited by Florida linebackers coach D.J. Durkin on Tuesday, had a chance to watch the Florida-FSU game Saturday and said he wasn't surprised with what he saw from the Gators defense.
"They played like they have all year," Powell said. "I mean it wasn't unexpected. I figured that they would play like that. They really showed everyone else how they can play. They did pretty good."
Florida defensive tackle commit Caleb Brantley (Crescent City, Fla./Crescent City), who has been committed to the Gators since Jan. 28, has recently shown interest in FSU and was on hand to watch the game in Tallahassee. The 6-foot-3, 305-pound Under Armour All-American, said after the game that he is still solidly committed to the Gators.
"It was a good game," Brantley said via text message. "I think we dominated them the whole game in my opinion. My commitment is 100 percent."
Brantley took it a step further on Facebook. If his status update is any indication, it appears that Brantley will be signing with the Gators in February.
"Its been coming to my attention that I will be playing for the Florida Gators! That's been my dream as a kid! And the opportunity is there! That's the best feeling in the world! Can't nothing bring me down right now! I love it!!"
In addition to Brantley and Powell, Florida linebacker commits Daniel McMillian (Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast) and James Hearns (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln) are also looking elsewhere. Hearns is planning to visit Ohio State, Louisville and FSU, while McMillian visited Ohio State last weekend.
All indications are that McMillian enjoyed his visit to Ohio State, but he will officially visit Florida before deciding on any further changes in his recruitment.
