One of the many interested viewers in last weekend’s USC-Oregon game was standout junior linebacker Michael Hutchings (Concord, Calif./De La Salle). Hutchings has interest in both schools and is looking to make an early commitment.
Hutchings, an ESPNU 150 Watch List member, is a national recruit and already boasts double-digit scholarship offers from schools like Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma, UCLA and USC to name a few.
“Man, that game was legit,” Hutchings said. “I was going to go and make an unofficial visit out of it but we ended up having practice the last two days so I couldn’t get out there. I watched the whole game on TV and was really impressed with both teams
“Both teams have been recruiting me pretty hard and said they may give me the chance to play strong safety in college. I had to play there for about five games this year because one of our guys got injured and I liked it a lot. I’m good with either outside ‘backer or strong safety, wherever they need me.”
Hutchings has already visited USC unofficially and plans to check out Oregon as well.
“After our season is over, I’m going to visit Oregon,” Hutchings said. “I know the coaches pretty well because Oregon’s DC, Nick Aliotti, his brother Joe is on our staff here. Right now, USC is still my No. 1 and I would like to make an early decision. I don’t want to drag this out so I’m planning to take some visits in the spring and then commit in the summer.”
