A six-hour drive from Northern California did little to sap the energy from USC running back commit Justin Davis (Stockton, Calif./Lincoln) on Saturday. The four-star prospect walked into the Coliseum for his first Trojans game, saw the pageantry and was instantly struck with excitement.
Not even USC’s 62-51 loss to Oregon could ruin his trip to Los Angeles or dampen his commitment to the Trojans.
“It’s definitely something I’ll always remember,” Davis said following his unofficial visit, the only one he plans to take this year. “It was definitely an exciting experience and, on top of that, it was a big game. These were two top-of-the-notch teams and to think I’ll be playing for one of them in the future is an exciting feeling.”
On Sunday, before eating at the iconic Pink’s Hot Dogs in West Hollywood and driving back home, Davis walked around campus and toured the recently completed, state-of-the-art John McKay Center.
“It’s something amazing,” he said. “They’ve got a lot of stuff in there that I can’t wait to get my hands on. I can’t wait to get there. The coaches told me they can’t wait for me to get there and be a part of the offense.”
Davis said the two-day stay was probably the last time he’ll be in Southern California before his official visit, which is scheduled for the weekend of Dec. 7 along with the rest of the USC recruits who intend to enroll early.
“I needed this experience because it’s as close as it gets without being part of the team yet,” Davis said. “I got to see how they do things and got to experience the game day stuff. I now know what I’ll be doing at my future school. I kept an eye on the running backs, got to see how they do things and how Coach (Kennedy) Polamalu coaches them up before the game. I pictured myself being there next year and doing those same things.”
Davis, the nation’s No. 16 running back, also met a pair of fellow commits for the first time.
