With league play set to start across the nation, here’s a look at how some USC recruits have fared midway through the season:
QB Max Browne (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline)
Notable stats: Browne has passed for 1,607 yards and 17 touchdowns in five games.
Season outlook: Skyline is 5-0, the top-ranked team in Washington Division 4A and averaging 57 points per game. The top-rated signal-caller in the West has backed up the hype.
Key remaining game: Oct. 12 at Bellevue (Wash.) Newport.
ATH Su’a Cravens (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta)
Notable stat: Cravens has six touchdowns in four games.
Season outlook: Vista Murrieta, the No. 11 team in the ESPN 25 power rankings, is one of the favorites to land a coveted CIF State Bowl Game berth. Coach Coley Candaele has been economical in his use of Cravens in an effort to save him for the stretch run.
Key remaining games: Oct. 19 at Murrieta (Calif.) Valley, Oct. 26 at Murrieta (Calif.) Mesa, Nov. 2 vs. Temecula (Calif.) Chaparral.
RB Justin Davis (Stockton, Calif./Lincoln)
Notable stat: Davis has rushed for 650 yards and seven touchdowns in five games.
Season outlook: Lincoln, despite the presence of Davis and Elite 11 quarterback finalist Zack Greenlee on offense, has limped to a 2-3 start.
Key remaining game: Oct. 19 vs. Tracy (Calif.).
OL Nico Falah (Bellflower, Calif./St. John Bosco)
Notable stats: Bosco has averaged 190 rushing yards per game and has scored 14 touchdowns through the ground. Falah has been as good as advertised on the left side, paving the way for his running backs.
Season outlook: St. John Bosco was forced to forfeit its first four wins due to the use of an ineligible player but responded well to adversity by beating Sandy (Utah) Jordan, 34-33, on the road.
Key remaining games: Oct. 5 at Orange (Calif.) Lutheran, Oct. 19 at Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei, Nov. 2 vs. Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Catholic.
DE Jason Hatcher (Louisville, Ky./Trinity)
Notable stats: Hatcher had four sacks and a forced fumble during a nationally televised game against Indianapolis Cathedral.
Season outlook: Trinity, the No. 3 team in the ESPN 25 power rankings, has thrived under the spotlight. Hatcher has been nothing short of superb. Anything less than a Kentucky state championship would be a disappointment.
Key remaining game: Oct. 26 vs. Cincinnati Moeller.
CB Chris Hawkins (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga)
Notable stats: The four-star cornerback has one interception and two touchdown receptions.
Season outlook: If not for a gut-wrenching loss to Anaheim (Calif.) Servite, Rancho Cucamonga would be undefeated. With Hawkins and fellow four-star defensive back Tahaan Goodman, the Cougars have one of the region’s top defenses, which could be a determining factor in the postseason.
Key remaining games: Oct. 5 vs. Upland (Calif.), Nov. 1 vs. Alta Loma (Calif.).
LB Michael Hutchings (Concord, Calif./De La Salle)
Notable stat: The Trojans secured quite the athlete when Hutchings committed in July. How many other linebackers can return a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown, as Hutchings did on Sept. 7?
Season outlook: Barring an unexpected mishap, perennial power De La Salle should make a return trip to Southern California for the CIF State Bowl game in December. Hutchings is the backbone of a talented, stingy defense for DLS, the No. 6 team in the ESPN 25 power rankings.
Key remaining games: Oct. 19 vs. Danville (Calif.) Monte Vista, Nov. 2 at San Ramon (Calif.) California.
RB Ty Isaac (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy)
Notable stats: In four games, Isaac has totaled 570 yards and nine touchdowns -- capped by last week’s monster 287-yard, four-touchdown performance.
Season outlook: Joliet Catholic is 5-2 despite the fact that Isaac missed two games while nursing an injured shoulder.
Key remaining games: Oct. 12 at Niles (Ill.) Notre Dame, Oct. 19 vs. Lisle (Ill.) Benet Academy.
WR Steven Mitchell (Mission Hills, Calif./Alemany)
Notable stats: Mitchell has 11 touchdowns and has averaged more than 100 receiving yards per game.
Season outlook: Alemany, really, was one defensive stop against away from pulling off a tough road victory against high-powered Corona (Calif.) Centennial. Mitchell and the Warriors intend on capturing their sixth consecutive Serra League crown.
Key remaining games: Oct. 12 vs. La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat, Oct. 26 at Encino (Calif.) Crespi.
CB Jalen Ramsey (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy)
Notable stats: Ramsey is a standout receiver and shutdown cornerback, yes, but he also has a knack for blocking kicks. He has gotten to the punter three times already this year.
Season outlook: Brentwood Academy rebounded nicely after stumbling against nationally ranked Louisville (Ky.) Trinity in the opener. Ramsey has help in Florida-bound quarterback Max Staver.
Key remaining games: Oct. 19 at Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth.
ATH Max Redfield (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo)
Notable stat: Redfield has five touchdowns.
Season outlook: Mission Viejo, off to a perfect 6-0 start, hasn’t really needed much from Redfield early on. That figures to change a bit when the Diablos begin their South Coast League slate.
Key remaining games: Oct. 12 at San Clemente (Calif.), Oct. 19 at Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Tesoro, Nov. 2 vs. Lake Forest (Calif.) El Toro.
