2013 tailbacks on the radar

11/7/2011

With it looking more and more like junior college tailback Kelvin York and high school fullback Jahleel Pinner will form the running back contingent of USC's 2012 recruiting class, attention could turn to several 2013 backs.

Derrick Henry (Yulee, Fla./Yulee) is likely the top back on the wish list, but he has already committed to Georgia and will likely remain in the Southeast even if he doesn't stick to his commitment to the Bulldogs.

Ryan Green (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg Catholic) should see his recruitment expand in a big way in the near future, and the USC coaches have been keeping an eye on the talented tailback. He said he grew up fan of Reggie Bush and became enamored with the USC football program. But several important family members, including his sister, have attended Florida State.

On the West Coast, Thomas Tyner (Aloha, Ore./Aloha) will definitely be a recruit to watch, provided you can catch a glimpse of him. Tyner possesses absolutely blazing speed, running the 100 meters in 10.4 seconds. But Tyner provides the best of both worlds as a tailback, as his stature -- 5-foot-10 and 195 pounds -- doesn't relegate him to serving as only a speed back.

DaVonte Young (Bellflower, Calif./St. John Bosco) will be another West Coast junior tailback to watch.

As for the fullback position, USC has already extended an offer to Su'a Cravens (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta). Cravens said the USC coaches see him filling a Stanley Havili-type role with his ability to run the ball and catch it out of the backfield. Cravens currently holds more than a dozen offers, but only USC has spoken to him about playing offense.
