Five key games featuring USC recruits

9/12/2012

Here are this week’s top five high school football games featuring USC recruits:

Santa Monica (Calif.) vs. Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei at Santa Ana Stadium, Thursday: USC receiver commit Sebastian LaRue of Santa Monica (2-0) will face his toughest challenge of the year against a talented Mater Dei secondary that features 2014 cornerback Jonathan Lockett. Santa Monica will be stepping up a few divisions, meaning a blowout victory wouldn't be surprising for Mater Dei (2-0) and quarterback Ryan McMahon, who is a USC baseball commit. LaRue didn't score an offensive touchdown last week so he'll be aiming for a statement game against a big-name opponent.

Redlands (Calif.) East Valley at Murrieta (Calif.) Vista Murrieta: This will be a battle of USC commits; defensive end Kylie Fitts of REV (1-1) and Su'a Cravens of Vista Murrieta (2-0), the No. 18 team in the ESPN 25. Fitts and Cravens could go face to face if Cravens carries the ball out of the backfield. Plus, these are perhaps the top two squads in the Inland Empire and this is a potential CIF Southern Section Inland Division championship preview. The game will be broadcast by Fox Sports West on tape delay at 8:30 p.m. PT Friday.

Lakewood (Calif.) at Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne: It could be a long night for 2014 commit Toa Lobendahn and his Lakewood teammates, as defending CIF Los Angeles City Section champion Narbonne has yet to allow a point this year, shutting out Palos Verdes and Long Beach Poly. Not helping matters is the possibility that top Lakewood (2-1) playmaker X'avier Shepherd, a Utah receiver commit, might sit out with an ankle injury. Narbonne (3-0) is led by dynamic quarterback Troy Williams, a Washington commit. Lobendahn and Co. are faced with a difficult task, but it should be a solid measuring stick for the offensive lineman. The game will be televised at 7 p.m. PT Friday on ESPNU.

Mission Hills (Calif.) Alemany at Corona (Calif.) Centennial: It's the longest road trip of the year for USC receiver commit Steven Mitchell and high-powered Alemany. Awaiting the Warriors (3-0) after a 70-mile journey to the Inland Empire will be highly motivated Centennial (1-1), which suffered a gut-wrenching loss to Ventura St. Bonaventure a few weeks back. Mitchell has been the most productive Trojans recruit this season, scoring seven touchdowns despite limited action in three blowouts.

Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier at Louisville (Ky.) Trinity: Trinity, the No. 5 team in the ESPN 25 power rankings, looks to defend its turf again when another top out-of-state team visits Marshall Stadium. Trojans defensive end commit Jason Hatcher has been unstoppable in the trenches, giving Trinity (3-0) the luxury of being aggressive defensively. St. Xavier (2-1) features Michigan State receiver commit Trey Kilgore.
