Four-star defensive end Jason Hatcher (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) will have bragging rights over fellow USC commit Jalen Ramsey (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy) when they arrive on campus, as Trinity beat Brentwood Academy for the second consecutive year, 52-23, in the season opener Friday night.
Trinity, which extended its state-best win streak to 26 games, used a Hatcher-led defense to score 35 unanswered points and pull away. The Shamrocks defeated Brentwood Academy 45-7 last season, handing the team from Tennessee its most lopsided loss in program history.
Hatcher was a force up front, disrupting plays and making life tough on Florida quarterback commit Max Staver. Hatcher blocked a punt, recovered the ball and took it in for a touchdown in the first quarter.
Before going down with leg cramps in the second half, Ramsey had a 69-yard touchdown catch to give Brentwood Academy a 23-17 lead midway through second quarter.
Hatcher and the Trinity defense took over from there, allowing only 14 yards of total offense in the third.
"I thought our kids responded very well," Trinity coach Bob Beatty told the team's flagship radio station following the game.
