Junior running back Silas Redd announced his transfer from Penn State to USC on Tuesday afternoon, instantly boosting the Trojans offense by adding depth to a depleted backfield and bringing a bit of relief to an area of concern.
Some recruits would second guess their stance upon learning that their playing time might be affected, but USC running back commit Justin Davis (Stockton, Calif./Lincoln) welcomed the news.
"I think it's a great pickup," Davis said. "It won't affect my recruitment at all. If he's there the year I get there it'd actually be a great experience to learn from him."
Davis suffered a bruised shin Saturday while representing the West team in the Champion Gridiron Kings at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Florida. He said his leg is still sore but it hasn't gotten worse, which is a good sign.
"I should be back to full strength in a week," Davis said.
Davis, who added he's glad the hectic camp season has wrapped up, already developed a relationship with fellow running back commit Ty Isaac (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy). The two plan to graduate early and aren't fazed by Redd's transfer.
"We met at The Opening," Davis said of Isaac. "He's a cool dude. I think we'll form a great tandem at USC. He'll work off me and I'll work off him."
