Shaun Macc (Windsor, Ont.): In film I've watched of Justin Davis, he looks like a very complete back. Of course I recognize his highlight film is solely the biggest plays he has on camera, but it really looks like he has a good blend of speed, size, vision and cutback ability. Does his No. 24 overall ranking of running backs speak to the depth/talent in the running back position this year? Is he poised for a senior year that could see his stock rise? How is the talent in the league he plays in at Lincoln?
There are a lot of people who share your opinion about Davis being a complete back. In terms of his ranking, yes, there is certainly a chance it will be adjusted upwards as he goes through his senior season. Rankings are a fluid situation and are very hard to quantify in a sport like high school football with so many players throughout the country. I think a more important measurement right now is the number grade, Davis had an 82. That’s a real solid grade. It wouldn’t surprise me to see it go up too. One of the things that impressed me about Davis was how he played his best against some of the top competition in Northern California. He had 250 yards rushing and four touchdowns against Sacramento Grant (without Shaq Thompson) and 195 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns against Elk Grove Pleasant Grove, the alma mater of Arik Armstead.
