Wright is ready to go

While Tuesday's moves on offense generated the most attention, as Tre Madden worked at tailback and the offensive tackles flipped sides, there was a notable change in the defensive secondary, as Demetrius Wright went with the first team at strong safety.

This early in spring ball, the coaches have shown that they will look to shake things up and give backups opportunities to make an impact. On Tuesday, Wright was ready for his chance.

"They said for me to run with the ones," Wright said of the USC coaches. "Prove yourself, pretty much. That's all that was said."

Wright said he responded with a "yes, sir" and hit the field running.

While Jawanza Starling settled into the role last season, providing several memorable plays against Notre Dame, Oregon and UCLA, Wright was making a strong push for the spot early last fall and looks to be ready to take up the chase yet again.

"I know the playbook and I'm itching for it now," Wright said. "The door is open for anybody and I'm just trying to get my foot in."

Wright has been plagued by injury issues during his USC career, but said he is fully healthy right now and wants to prove he can make an impact on the field.

"Things are going good," Wright said. "I feel faster and stronger this year."
