BEAVERTON, Ore. -- When ESPN 300 linebacker D.J. Calhoun (El Cerrito, Calif./El Cerrito) gave his verbal commitment to USC on the final day of The Opening, the Trojans not only landed an important in-state prospect but, in the process, also won a recruiting battle against crosstown rival UCLA.

The USC staff hopes it's only the start.

ESPN 300 guard Toa Lobendahn (La Habra, Calif./La Habra) had been the lone USC commit at event before Calhoun put on his Trojans cap, but if the amount of positive statements from recruits at The Opening provide any indication, they won't be the only attendees who will end up representing the cardinal and gold.
