A look at the USC class of 2013 recruits who have starred on both sides of the ball so far this year:

Su'a Cravens (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta): Cravens faced a technique overhaul in the summer as he transitioned from linebacker to safety. He worked tirelessly on his backpedal, focusing more on vertical foot speed and less on lateral shuffling. The concentration has paid off early this season -- Cravens has four total touchdowns in two games, including three during a blowout win last Friday in which he forced two fumbles, blocked a punt and intercepted a pass. He also had a 10-yard touchdown reception and continues to be a running threat for CIF-Southern Section Inland Division favorite Vista Murrieta.

Michael Hutchings (Concord, Calif./De La Salle): The top-ranked linebacker in the West is a difference maker on special teams, too. Hutchings returned a kickoff 97 yards for a score Friday and added nine tackles in guiding powerhouse De La Salle to a come-from-behind victory against Denver (Colo.) Mullen. He had a nagging shoulder injury during the summer but appears to have put that behind him.
