Nellum is latest USC Olympian

June, 24, 2012
In what will certainly be one of the feel-good stories of the upcoming London Olympics, USC senior Bryshon Nellum took third place in the 400-meter dash at the Olympic trials with a personal-best time of 44.80 and has made the United States Olympic team in that event.

What makes the accomplishment so impressive is the fact that Nellum had been shot three times in the leg in 2008 in a drive-by shooting and was originally told by doctors that he would likely never race at a world-class level again. Nellum sat out the 2009 season at USC and most recently had surgery in the summer of 2011 to remove the final bullet fragments from his leg.
