As it stands now, USC’s chances are much better with Isaac than they are with Pocic. After this weekend, Isaac will have unofficially visited USC twice, while Pocic has yet to make a trip out this spring. Pocic also seems far more comfortable with the idea of staying in the Midwest, and that could come down to either Michigan or Ohio State, depending on how many OL spots the Wolverines have open in this class.
Louis (Las Vegas): Who else out of state is really looking at USC?
Just a few names in addition to Isaac. Wide receiver Eldridge Massington (Mesquite, Texas/West Mesquite) is definitely a name to keep an eye on. He received a USC offer this week and many thought he would immediately commit to the Trojans. Just because he didn’t pull the trigger doesn’t mean he isn’t still very interested. At cornerback, Vernon Hargreaves III (Tampa/Wharton) has consistently mentioned USC and that he’d like to take an unofficial visit to Los Angeles this summer. Though his dad coaches at South Florida, both have said distance won’t be a factor in his decision. A recent USC offer also caught the attention of Christian Morris (Memphis/East), who said the Trojans now lead in his recruitment and that he has always wanted to play college football in California.
Hom (Dearborn, Mich.)L What are the chances we land Max Redfield, Su'a Cravens and Priest Willis? Willis seems SC, but I guess Redfield wants the full treatment from all schools. I also like Johnny Johnson Jr. from Fresno.
The secondary is going to be a very interesting spot for the USC coaches with the 2013 class. I don’t think landing those three is out of the question, but it’s not going to be a slam dunk. Cravens will make his decision June 6 and it’s believed the Trojans are doing well with him. Things could be tougher for USC with the other two. The LSU offers are intriguing to both, as is the increased Alabama attention for Willis. You mentioned Johnny Johnson and that’s something to keep in mind. The secondary depth on the West Coast is so good this year, there are guys everywhere.
georgetirebiter (Bakersfield): With the new coaches can you say which coaches are responsible for which areas? Are travel plans for the coaches going to be made known? Do they sometimes try to be stealthy for certain OOS recruits?
Tee Martin has jumped right into recruiting for USC and been handed a big chunk of the map, as he is working basically all of the Northeast and Southeast. Monte Kiffin handles the Tampa/Orlando area, but Martin has been spotted from New Jersey to Texas to Philadelphia to Louisiana. Marvin Sanders has dropped by schools in Los Angeles -- his area when he was recruiting for Nebraska -- and is involved with players from Texas -- certainly a familiar spot again from his days coaching the Cornhuskers. Travel plans aren’t really made known unless they are tweeted out -- as Martin has done -- or a recruit says that a certain USC coach is coming by his school. Coaches from all schools definitely aren’t trying to be stealthy during the spring evaluation period. There is no in-person contact allowed with recruits at this time, so they’re doing what they can at each visit to make sure they are noticed. Later in the process they may try to be more secretive, but with Twitter and internet coverage, it’s tough to keep interest in a player under wraps.
There is interest in Green and a scholarship has been offered -- by USC as well as just about everybody else in the country. People certainly believe he has a chance to be great at the next level and he is that power back, downhill runner that the Trojans are looking for in this class. That being said, it appears as though Justin Davis (Stockton, Calif./Lincoln) and Isaac have settled in as the top two tailback targets for USC and both should be making their decisions somewhat soon. If the Trojans miss on one or both, attention will shift in a big way to Green and several other running back recruits.
