USC head coach Steve Sarkisian added the final piece of the puzzle to his new coaching staff on Tuesday with the announcement that Bo Davis has been hired as the Trojans’ defensive line coach.

"It is great to welcome Bo to USC," Sarkisian said. "He is one of the outstanding defensive line coaches in the country and makes for a great addition to our coaching staff."

A native of Magee, Miss., Davis lands at USC after spending the last three years at Texas, where he coached defensive tackles. In 2011 the Longhorns were 11th in the nation in total defense and sixth in rushing defense. Texas was fifth nationally in sacks (3.1 per game) this past season.

Prior to his stint in Austin, Davis, 42, spent eight of the previous nine years on Nick Saban-led staffs at Alabama, LSU and with the Miami Dolphins. It was during his four years (2007-10) as the defensive line coach for the Crimson Tide that his reputation grew, as he helped develop standout performers such as Marcell Dareus, Terrence Cody and Wallace Gilberry for a defense that was consistently ranked in the Top 10 in a number of categories. Alabama was 42-10 during his time there, and the Crimson Tide won the 2010 BCS Championship Game.

As a player, Davis was a three-year letterman (1990-92) at nose guard at LSU, where he would later serve as the assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2002-05.

The addition of Davis completes a USC staff that also includes Tim Drevno (offensive line/running game coordinator), Clay Helton (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks), Keith Heyward (defensive backs), Tee Martin (wide receivers), Johnny Nansen (running backs/special teams), Peter Sirmon (linebackers), Marques Tuiasosopo (tight ends), Justin Wilcox (defensive coordinator) and Ivan Lewis (strength and conditioning).
