USC commits and targets at all-star games on Tuesday

1/4/2012

Former USC wide receiver commit Jaydon Mickens (Los Angeles/Dorsey) was the star of the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl on Tuesday, catching a touchdown pass and recording a long rush and kickoff return as the West came away with a 17-14 victory.

USC targets Tee Shepard (Fresno, Calif./Washington Union) and Deontay Greenberry (Fresno, Calif./Washington Union) made their presence felt in the West defensive backfield, as Shepard deflected several passes and nearly came up with a terrific interception, while Greenberry did record an interception late in the game, which helped seal the win.

Fellow Trojans target D.J. Foster (Scottsdale, Ariz./Saguaro) played running back for the West team, and although he was mostly held in check, certainly showed glimpses of what makes him such a special football player. He is a versatile athlete who can play tailback as well as wide receiver, which makes him a matchup problem for opposing defenses.

USC linebacker commit Scott Starr (Norco, Calif./Norco) served as a captain for the East team and started at outside linebacker as well as several special teams units.

During the Under Amour All-America Game practices, the buzz continues to build around offensive guard Isaac Seumalo (Corvallis, Ore./Corvallis). Opposing defensive linemen -- some of the best in the country -- are calling Seumalo the best offensive lineman in attendance. The Trojans are looking to add at least one more lineman to this class of 2012, and it will be interesting to see where things stand with the Oregon State commit after his official visit to USC on Jan. 13.

Two-way standout Davonte Neal (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral) also continues his impressive run at high-profile events. After standout showings at Nike Camps and The Opening, Neal has been dominant against some of the best athletes in the country this week, standing out at wide receiver and cornerback. Neal lists Notre Dame, Ohio State and Arizona as three of his top choices, although the Trojans remain in the hunt.
