Longhorns offer UGA juco commit Fluker
By Kipp Adams
Shaquille Fluker (Meridian, Miss./East Mississippi Community College) has been committed to Georgia since August. He recently picked up an offer from another prominent program that could be enticing enough to warrant a trip to check them out.
“Texas offered me the week before Thanksgiving,” Fluker said. “It does not affect me much because I still want to stay in the SEC. Texas is a great school, but I do not know much about them, so I am thinking about taking an official there Dec. 7.”
Fluker, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound safety, is also thinking about taking an official visit to Georgia soon. He says his commitment to the Bulldogs remains solid.
“Nothing has changed with me and Georgia,” Fluker said. “They are still my first option and I hope to stay with them. Texas and Georgia are really the only ones I am considering right now.”
Fluker made 31 tackles and five interceptions this season. In October, Fluker found out he would not be a mid-year graduate, as he had hoped. Georgia has remained in contact with Fluker since he got the news.
“Georgia said they would keep me posted and to just keep working out,” Fluker said. “They plan to send me a playbook and they want me to come and go over it during the spring. Coach [Scott] Lakatos last week said he is ready for me to get down there and he wished I could be there in the spring.”
Late Saturday night, Georgia received a commitment from another junior college safety in Kennar Johnson (Clermont, Fla./Mississippi Gulf Coast Comm College). Johnson is expected to enroll in January.
“They did not tell me about them adding any other safeties, but that should not affect me,” Fluker said. “The other three are still coming out of high school, so I still have a chance to start when I get there.”
