But there are a few others worth keeping an eye on, which includes tackling machine James David (Rockdale, Texas/Rockdale). David (6-foot-2, 217) had a breakout sophomore season with 118 tackles and has continued his strong play in the early part of this season. Last week against Hillsboro, David claims to have had at least 20 tackles, three forced fumbles and a pass deflection.
Class of 2014 linebacker James David has offers from Baylor, Oklahoma and Washington.
Those types of numbers have gotten the attention of a few of the Longhorns’ conference foes, in particular Baylor and Oklahoma, which have both offered. Washington has as well, but those three certainly won’t be the last.
The question is: Will Texas join the mix?
HornsNation: Have you heard from the Longhorns at all?
James David: I haven’t. I really don’t know what’s going on. I have every school, almost, looking at me. So I don’t know.
HN: Are you interested in Texas at all?
David: I am interested in them. I just haven’t spoken to anybody from there.
HN: Is that frustrating to you that UT hasn’t inquired about you?
David: It’s not frustrating. Whoever does come talk to me, and sees me play, it makes me want to go there even more because I know they want me and want somebody that can play.
HN: But you were in Austin for the West Virginia game, correct?
David: Yeah it was unbelievable up there. I didn’t think it was going to be that good, but it was. I went down there with a few teammates, Josh Pezel, Marcus Hays, and our principal. We were on the recruits list.
HN: Let’s talk about that Oklahoma offer. Rockdale has some history with the Sooners, including Daniel Brooks who signed last year. What do you like about them?
David: The main thing I like are the coaches. The linebackers coach [Tim Kish] tries to make his players better. He keeps up with you and your grades in stuff. He just tells you to do what you are supposed to in class and you won’t fail. He just tries to get the players ready for the next level.”
HN: Does it help OU’s case that Brooks plays for them?
David: It would be nice to play with a teammate again, but in the end I just want to pick the school that showed that they really want me.
HN: When did you get the Baylor offer?
David: I got the Baylor offer when I went to the Baylor vs. Sam Houston State game. Washington called about three or four weeks ago. I don’t know much about Washington, but I really like Baylor. I went to the Baylor-OU game last year and I just liked how everything was. I liked how the Bears played and the offense they run. It was just amazing.
