DB Adams gets high praise from UT coach

By William Wilkerson

AUSTIN, Texas -- ESPN Watch List safety Jamal Adams (Lewisville, Texas/Hebron) felt at home in many ways during his unofficial visit to Texas on Saturday.

Adams, one of two safeties who holds a Texas offer in 2014, got a chance to speak with Longhorns defensive coordinator Manny Diaz before the game, who told him something very comforting.

“He said that he would love to have me suited up right there and now,” Adams said. “That was a good compliment and the highlight of the night. That was unbelievable to hear that from a good coach like that at a Division I program. That was the best highlight of the night. He said I could come in and start as a freshman.”

As for the game, Adams said it was probably the loudest game he’d ever been to.

“The atmosphere was just intense,” he said. “The fans loved it. I was on the West Virginia side and so many of the Texas fans were just talking noise to Geno Smith and Tavon Austin. That just made it better.”

It seemed like there was quite a bit of jawing back and forth between Texas fans/recruits and West Virginia’s players.

“West Virginia, I wouldn’t exactly classify them as classy,” Adams said. “They made it seem like they won the Super Bowl. They didn’t have class about their win. Geno was just talking saying, ‘Where were ya’ll at, Texas fans?’ It just wasn’t classy but it was fun at the moment. I’m not gonna lie.”

As for the game itself, Adams said that any Texas game he goes to he makes it a point to keep his eye on Texas senior safety Kenny Vaccaro.

“I like to see him play. I can see myself playing like that,” he said. “I have a lot of people tell me that I play like him at that hybrid position.”
