New school on Jason Hall's radar

By Damon Sayles

If nothing else, one advantage Jason Hall (Grand Prairie, Texas/South Grand Prairie) received after decommitting from Nebraska earlier this month was that he had a chance to truly weigh all of his options.

That advantage might have helped a third team emerge in a race many thought ultimately would be a two-team battle. Nebraska’s still a contender, and Texas had been the place where many believe he’ll end up, but Oklahoma is now a player in the three-star defensive back’s recruiting process.

“I’m debating right now, but it’s out of those three,” Hall said. “I found out OU has a big interest in me. They said I have a chance of getting a lot of playing time early, because they need a lot of DBs.”

Hall, a 6-foot-3, 192-pound, high school cornerback projected to play safety in college, was offered by Oklahoma last month after a satellite camp co-hosted by McMurry University. He is being recruited as a safety but added that he’s been in discussion with the Sooners’ coaches to play cornerback.

Oklahoma has an defensive back that Hall is close with in three-star Marcus Green (Cedar Hill, Texas/Cedar Hill). Hall and Green train together, and Hall said Green gives him all of the Sooners information he needs.

“I like the coaches. I like [head coach] Bob Stoops and [defensive coordinator] Mike Stoops,” Hall said. “I like the team they have and how they ran things at the camp.”

Hall said he doesn’t have a favorite among Oklahoma, Texas and Nebraska, and he said he has yet to set any official visits. Hall, however, will be in attendance for the Texas Stampede on Saturday in Austin, Texas, and will attend with an important agenda.

“I’m going to get a feel for the campus and to get a chance to chill with the coaches,” Hall said. “The ones I don’t know, I want to get to know them. I also want to get to know some of the commits.”

As for a decision day, Hall said he’s looking to finalize his recruiting before the start of the season, which is next month. Hall, in addition to the aforementioned schools, has offers from Baylor, Iowa, Utah, North Texas and Nevada.
