Good luck finding a more talkative member of Texas’ 2013 recruiting class than Antwuan Davis.
The ESPN 150 cornerback from Bastrop (Texas) committed to the Longhorns in May and has already vowed he’ll be one of the leaders of his class. Ever since he found out he couldn’t enroll early, Davis has been itching to get on campus as soon as possible and make a name for himself.
Here’s what Davis had to say about his freshman season at Texas, which Longhorn greats he compares to, and why there’s no way he’s overrated.
ESPN 150 defensive back Antwuan Davis predicts the Longhorns will win the national title in 2013.
@GundersonNathan: Antwuan, what are you looking forward to in being a Horn?Antwuan Davis: Being a Longhorn, it’s just hanging out with the guys, hanging out with my boys. It’s been a while. Jake Raulerson is already texting me saying, ‘Yo, come hang out with us.’ Living with him, that’s always going to be fun.
@IHuerta7: Who is winning the Big 12 and national title this year??
Antwuan Davis: Oh, Texas will be doing both. I believe we came from a young squad so all these youngsters will be older now and on top of that we’re bringing in more mature youngsters that will be able to play early. So I believe once we win the Big 12 we’ll have no choice to go play against Alabama or somebody in the national championship.
@73Rilley73: What do you say to players like A’Shawn Robinson who decommit from UT?
Antwuan Davis: Well I couldn’t believe it. But things happen. I was really devastated, to be honest with you. I was hoping he would stay. I mean, we’ve grown to know each other and like each other a whole lot.
@AnthonyAr27: How do you feel about the DBs next year at Texas?
Antwuan Davis: Oh, I know it’s going to be real fun and a lot of competition as well. I know that getting to play with them is going to be awesome. I’ll say if I learn the stuff and learn the plays and the players and coach [Duane] Akina show me what to do, I can definitely see the field.
@zmoney_hookem: Who’s the one DB that has played at Texas that you really look up to?
Antwuan Davis: I look up to Quandre Diggs. He was a freshman All-American and I’m looking forward to getting out there and him showing me what he knows and teaching me how to get to that type of level. That’s what I’m most looking forward to. Growing up, it would either be Quentin Jammer or Aaron Ross. I remember watching A-Ross play and I was like, ‘Man, he’s fast.’ The way he’d turn and run made me say, ‘I want to do that.’ I think he’s real cool. Jammer, the coaches say and I believe that he’s the same type of corner that I am. When you’ve got bigger, physical corners with good speed and good hits, it always works out.
Antwuan Davis: I’m overrated? Well you can just tell him this: I’ve worked for everything I have now. I can’t be overrated. If he feels that way, he can, but if you see me on the field next year you can’t say a freshman is overrated.
