Juco OT Harrison sets decision date
By Max Olson
Desmond Harrison has taken all his visits and met with all his recruiters countless times. He’s ready to make a decision.
The three-star Contra Costa (Calif.) College offensive tackle is planning to announce his commitment Monday. Contra Costa coach Alonzo Carter said Harrison is down to Texas, Arizona State and USC as his finalists.
“He’s going to take the weekend to talk to his mother about it come to a final decision,” Carter said.
A 6-foot-8, 310-pound lineman with more than 20 offers, Harrison took official visits to those three schools, plus Oklahoma and NC State.
This week was his first one back at Contra Costa after winter break, and coaches from Oklahoma, Arizona State, USC and Texas all visited the school. The Longhorns sent offensive line coach Stacy Searels and defensive tackles coach Bo Davis for their visit.
Harrison’s decision will likely come come down to Texas and Arizona State, where two of his juco teammates have already given pledges. USC has made a late push and received his final official visit.
“We just want to get this over with and end the drama,” Carter said. “I want to be respectful to the coaches, because there’s only a few weeks left so they want to know if they should bring other guys in.”
Harrison is ranked No. 86 in the ESPN JC 100 and No. 9 among juco offensive tackle prospects. He’s a summer enrollee who has three years to complete two seasons of eligibility.
