Juco LB Campbell has new visit plan
By Max Olson
When De’Vondre Campbell decided to push back his decision date, the Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College linebacker felt he needed to take two more official visits before ending his recruitment.
Now that he’s done with semester break, Campbell is taking his first one this weekend.
The three-star juco linebacker is on an official visit to Kansas State this weekend, according to a source close to the situation. This is Campbell’s fourth official visit following trips to Tennessee, Texas and Minnesota.
Campbell, a native of Fort Myers, Fla., returned home to Florida for winter break and has maintained his silence about his visit plans since then. In fact, ever since Hutchinson erroneously announced in a press release on Dec. 18 that Campbell had signed with Texas, he hasn’t said a word publicly about where his recruitment stands.
The former Tennessee commit hoped to enroll early at a school, but he’s now planning on a May graduation from Hutchinson and is expected to make his final decision before next month’s signing day.
Kansas State has strong ties to Hutchinson. Five players on its 2012 team came from the junior college located two hours away from Manhattan, Kan., including All-Big 12 defensive end Meshak Williams.
As a redshirt freshman at Hutchinson, Campbell finished with 88 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and an interception. He has three years to play three seasons in college.
