Texas was able to target and nab commitments from most of its top targets in 2013, which has allowed the Longhorns’ coaching staff to begin evaluating 2014 sooner than ever.
Here is an early look at some of those targets are on offense:
Unless someone transfers, Texas will likely only take one quarterback in 2014.
Committed in 2013: Tyrone Swoopes (Whitewright, Texas/Whitewright), No. 100 overall in ESPN 150.
Jerrod Heard (Denton, Texas/Guyer)
Texas’ coaches have let their interest in Heard be known. Longhorns co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Bryan Harsin was in attendance for his spring game, and also took him aside to work with Swoopes during a Texas camp in June.
Keep an eye on
David Blough (Carrolton, Texas/Creekview); Justice Hansen (Edmond, Okla./Santa Fe); Coleman Key (Broken Arrow, Okla./Broken Arrow); Ronald Monroe (Richmond, Texas/ Fort Bend Bush); Aaron Sharp (Humble, Texas/Summer Creek).
There’s probably not a program in the country that wouldn’t take Texas’ backfield right now. They are young, which could deter some top prospects from coming to Austin, but that won’t stop the Longhorns from trying to snag a couple to join the fleet.
Committed in 2013: Kyle Hicks (Arlington, Texas/Martin), No. 22 RB.
