HornsNation, will analyze each of the scholarship players currently on the Texas roster. (The bulk of the 2012 class is not currently on the roster.) We will look at the player’s past contributions, what he might do for Texas this year and the future impact he could have on the program. Starting with No. 1 Mike Davis we will go through the roster numerically before ending with No. 99 Desmond Jackson.
Linebacker, 6-3, 255, sophomore
Impact in 2011
Edmond was used as a backup linebacker and played in 12 of 13 games as a true freshman. He also saw time on special teams. He had 16 tackles in his first season and 13 of those were solo.
Impact in 2012
Edmond will step into a starting role as a sophomore and should provide Texas with some size and speed at the linebacker position. Edmond is able to move very well for his size and he also has extremely long arms. Those arms not only help him bring down tacklers, but because of their length, he can shed offensive linemen easier and get to the ball.
Impact in 2013 and beyond
It is expected that Edmond will be a fixture at the linebacker position for several years. He has drawn several comparisons to former Texas player Derrick Johnson. Edmond has the skill to become that type of dominant player but has a long way to go to prove that he is that type of player.
