Q&A: 2014 Texas OL Connor Mayes

February, 13, 2013
After watching brother Alex Mayes enjoy his recruiting process, Connor Mayes is ready for his turn.

The 2014 offensive line prospect from Van Alstyne, Texas, attended Texas’ first junior day on Sunday. He didn’t land an offer from the Longhorns but already has more than six offers to consider at this point.

Here’s what Mayes had to say about the new offer he received Tuesday, his impressions of his Texas trip and living up to the reputation of his brother.

HornsNation: Did Texas Tech just offer you a scholarship?

Connor Mayes: Yes they did. They talked to my head coach and my head coach told me to get in touch with them. I called and they said I have as scholarship to the Texas Tech Red Raiders. It’s awesome. That’s where my mom went to school and I have a friend who signed there.

HN: Has Tech been recruiting you for a while?

Mayes: Well, I saw my brother go through the recruiting process and got to talk to Coach [Sonny] Cumbie, so I got to know their program a little bit.

HN: What did you think of your visit to Texas this weekend?

Mayes: It was awesome. I love Coach [Stacy] Searels and Mack Brown.

HN: What did you think of the campus and the facilities and all that they offer?

Mayes: They’re beautiful. I love Austin and I thought that was pretty awesome too.
