AUSTIN, Texas -- Junior college defensive tackle Brandon Moore (Scooba, Miss./East Mississippi Community College) became the second official member of Texas' 2012 recruiting class on Wednesday when he signed his national letter of intent.

Fellow junior college prospect Donald Hawkins (Senatobia, Miss./Northwest Mississippi Community College) signed his LOI earlier today.

Like Hawkins, Moore gave his verbal pledge to the Longhorns on Dec. 7 after a visit from a member of Texas’ coaching staff. In Moore’s case it was Longhorns defensive tackles coach Bo Davis that stopped by his school.

Davis is one of the main reasons, if not the main reason, that Moore chose Texas over other pursuers, like Florida and Miami. The two have remained in contact since Davis helped recruit Moore to Alabama when he graduated from Montgomery (Ala.) Carver High School.

Moore ended up playing in four games and made three tackles as a freshman on Alabama’s 2009 national championship team that defeated Texas. He also won a national title for EMCC, and is hoping to continue that streak for Texas.

He should play an immediate role in the Longhorns' pursuit of such hardware, given that they'll lose senior three-year starting defensive tackle Kheeston Randall after the Holiday Bowl.

Moore, who stands 6-foot-7 and 330 pounds, should fit in seamlessly at a defensive tackle position that is not only asked to pursue quarterbacks but also eat blockers to enable blitzing linebackers a clearer path to the backfield.

Moore said he would like to make similar impacts as fellow juco defensive line transfers Terrence Cody and Nick Fairley, who won national titles with Alabama and Auburn respectively.
