The Whitewright (Texas) quarterback and Texas commit is dealing with a pulled hamstring that he re-aggravated this weekend in a 41-20 loss to Howe. Whitewright coach Jack Wylie told RecruitingNation that Swoopes will not start at quarterback his next game, and his role will be reduced until he's fully healthy.

"It's not a serious pull, but the only way a hamstring gets better is rest. That's it," Wylie said. "If we have to take our lumps right now and have him back for districts, we're going to do that."

Swoopes originally suffered the hamstring injury in Whitewright's game against Prairiland on Sept. 7. Against Howe, the pain worsened to the point that Wylie had to stop calling designed run plays for his quarterback.

Swoopes threw for 280 yards on 22-of-50 passing in the loss, and he still managed to rush for 133 yards on 12 carries before to the injury. Whitewright is 0-3 on the season.

Now all the ESPN 150 athlete and four-star prospect will focus on is healing. Taking a seat on the bench won't be easy, but his coach knows Swoopes will do what's best for his team -- even if that means suffering a few more losses.

"He always has a great attitude," Wylie said. "It'll be hard for him because he's such a competitor, but he understands. The goal is to win a district championship."
