COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – Nick Orr (DeSoto, Texas/DeSoto) had big expectations for his weekend in College Station at the Texas state 7-on-7 championships.
What went down on Friday certainly didn’t meet those expectations.
During an opening-round game in the tournament, the 2014 cornerback prospect went up to defend a pass and caught an elbow to the forehead from his receiver.
“A lot of blood was leaking out,” Orr said. “It didn’t feel like it hurt, but blood was gushing all over.”
Orr was taken to the College Station Medical Center and had to get eight stitches above his right eye. He sat out both of DeSoto’s championship-bracket games on Saturday as a precaution.
He’ll bounce back from the setback quickly, but Orr was looking forward to further getting his name out.
“Right now I have one offer from North Texas, and SMU and Texas Tech have been talking to me,” Orr said.
The 5-foot-9, 153-pound defensive back camped at Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and North Texas this summer and felt he put on a strong performance at the Longhorns’ camp in June.
“I talked to coach [Duane] Akina at Texas camp and met him and Mack Brown,” Orr said. “I think I did pretty good at that camp. Their coaches said I have good footwork, and that’s what they like.”
