Impact so far

Redshirted his first year.

Impact in 2012

McFarland will have every chance to become the starting tight end by the start of the season. He was clearly the best tight end option the Longhorns had in the spring, but still has to improve his blocking technique. Getting leverage has been a problem for him.

Impact in 2013 and beyondMcFarland has the frame and hands to become a standout tight end for Texas. He probably will not see a lot of passes thrown his way in his fi

rst year, but by year two could figure more into the offense. With his size and strength, he is going to be hard for linebackers to stick with and cover. But Texas first needs him to become a reliable blocker before it is confident sending him out in patterns.
