Hardeman happy with performance

Texas had some catching up to do when it came to Chris Hardeman (Houston/Alief Taylor), but the 2014 cornerback enjoyed his trip to Austin and thought he made a big impression on secondary coach Duane Akina.

“It was cool. Coach Akina is a real cool coach and I like his philosophy,” Hardeman said. “Getting out there and competing was the biggest reason I came, and I definitely competed.”

Hardeman already holds offers from LSU, Texas A&M, Baylor, Texas Tech and nearly a dozen other schools, and Akina made it clear Texas is interested.

“Coach Akina said he watched my tape before I got here and he liked me a lot on tape because I’m aggressive,” Hardeman said. “He told me I was doing things well and he was working with me. I feel like I impressed him a lot, both on film and what he saw today.”

The 5-foot-9, 180-pound corner felt that he, 2014 prospect Tony Brown (Beaumont, Texas/Ozen) and recent Texas Tech decommit Tavares Garner (Manvel, Texas/Manvel) were the defensive backs who stood out on Sunday.

Though Hardeman dealt with some hamstring issues late in the camp, he was satisfied with his performance. He enjoyed his time in Austin, too.

But where does that leave the Longhorns among Hardeman’s favorite schools?

“I’ve always thought Texas was a great school,” he said. “I mean, their football stands for itself. I like it a lot. I like Texas, I like A&M and I like a lot of schools. Everybody is basically the same. But an offer would help a lot.”
