DeMarcus Holland commits to Texas

4/8/2012

Class of 2012 shooting guard DeMarcus Holland gave his verbal pledge to the Longhorns during an official visit on Saturday, he’s told HornsNation.

"I'm very excited to be able to be a part of the great future they have down there," Holland said.

Holland, who stands 6-foot-3 and 175 pounds, is Texas’ second commitment from Garland (Texas) Naaman Forest. Prince Ibeh, a 6-foot-10 center rated No. 59 in the ESPNU 100, has already signed with the Longhorns.

Holland had been committed to South Florida since January but decommitted because he wanted to make 100 percent certain that was the place he wanted to spend the next four years.

Apparently it wasn’t.

Texas offered Holland a few weeks ago and garnered his commitment on Saturday. He is the first shooting guard to join this six-member class. Ibeh, Connor Lammert, Javan Felix and Ioannis Papapetrou have signed. The Longhorns are hopeful that center Cameron Ridley, the No. 8 player in the ESPNU 100, will sign next week.

Holland averaged 12 points, five assists, five rebounds and two steals during his senior season. He only reports offers from Texas, USF and SMU but that might have something to do with him tearing the meniscus in his right knee during the early parts of his junior season.
