Four-star Texas defensive back commit Jermaine Roberts (New Orleans/Saint Augustine) understands the game and respects the process.

Just because a recruit gives his verbal pledge, as Roberts did to the Longhorns on April 12, doesn’t mean other programs simply are going to wave a white flag and surrender the battle.

More often than not those on the outside looking in only will increase their recruiting efforts to try to sway a young man's mind.

Several national powers are trying to do that to Roberts, which he appreciates, but also politely declines.

In his first season as head coach at Texas, Charlie Strong and the Longhorns finished the 2014 season with a 6-7 overall record, going 5-4 in Big 12 action.
