Texas has picked up its first commitment from its second junior day: Linebacker Deoundrei Davis.
The Cypress Woods standout told HornsNation he got an offer from coach Mack Brown on Saturday night and decided to deliver his commitment Sunday morning.
"Growing up Texas was always the school I looked up to, and I always wanted to go there as a child," Davis said. "I want to bring a national championship back to Texas."
Davis is the seventh commitment for Texas' 2013 class. We'll have much more on his decision up soon.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Manny Diaz will build his Texas defense on his own terms.
The second-year defensive coordinator has brought in 15 potential defenders for the Longhorns’ 2013 class during UT’s first two junior days. Only three have received scholarship offers.
On a day when UT appeared to have brought in most of its favorite in-state defensive targets, all went home empty-handed. What gives?

Mack Brown sent Texas’ junior day visitors a clear message on Saturday: We want many of you, but only if you’re ready to become a Longhorn.
Texas is putting together a smaller recruiting class than normal for 2013, and its coaches are guarding their offers carefully. And if they do offer offer you a spot, be prepared to say yes quickly.
“They want people who want to go to Texas,” defensive end Deon Hollins Jr. (Fort Bend, Texas/Marshall) said. “I think that’s the point they were trying to get across.”

Shreveport (La.) Evangel offensive tackle Josh Thomas has Texas at the top of his list, and let Longhorns coaches know that during his time at their junior day on Saturday.
He didn’t get an offer on Saturday, but, to his understanding, that was the case for most everyone else as well.
“[The coaches] are going to meet tomorrow morning sometime and pick whose who and go from there.” said Thomas, who stands 6-foot-7 and 335 pounds. "They are going to see if people really want to go there or not, and narrow down the list.”

Richardson (Texas) Lake Highlands coach Scott Smith didn’t want to intervene too much into Kent Perkins’ time at Texas’ junior day on Saturday.
But he did speak with his talented offensive tackle to get a feel for how things went.
“I think right now he is just enjoying hanging out with his mom and grandmother,” Smith said. “He had a great time today. That was the big part of what he told me. He said, ‘Coach, it was a great time.’ He got to meet all of the guys, got to meet with Mack [Brown.] He got to see the campus in a different light today. It sounded like he had a great time, and those were the words he used, which makes it even better.”

One visitor for Texas’ Saturday junior day might not be able to make the trip to Austin.
Lancaster’s Daeshon Hall has a playoff basketball game tonight against Jacksonville. If Lancaster wins, he will skip the junior day and practice with his team on Saturday morning.
The 6-foot-6, 235-pound defensive end is one of the more intriguing junior ends in the state. His family moved to Lancaster from Seattle last July and he enjoyed a breakout season with 60 tackles and 11 sacks.

Kirk Eaton wouldn’t be surprised at all if Jacorey Warrick came home from Austin with a Texas offer on Saturday night. The Houston Cy Falls coach is confident his speedy junior is one of the best receivers in the state of Texas.
“He’s the best I’ve ever seen, the best we’ve ever had,” Eaton said. “I don’t know how many great slot receivers there are in the state, but I promise you he’s the best one.”
Warrick picked up two more offers on Friday, from Missouri and Oklahoma State, and now has 11 total. While Eaton was in Austin today for the state wresting tournament, he also spoke with Texas coach Mack Brown and defensive ends coach Oscar Giles.

Center Austin Davis (Mansfield, Texas), fresh off attending Oklahoma State’s junior day last weekend, confirmed Friday that he will be in Austin, Texas, Saturday for the Longhorns’ junior day.
A shade under 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds, Davis is a key member of Mansfield’s offensive line. He is listed as a center but can play either guard or tackle if necessary.
Davis is looking at Saturday as an opportunity not only to flash his resume but also learn more about a school he’s respected all his life.

Breaking down Texas’ second junior day

There will likely be additions and subtractions to this list by the time Texas’ second junior day begins in the early morning hours on Saturday. Regardless, here is a look at the players that could be in attendance.
They have been broken down by position to give you a better understanding of the battles at hand. Pay particularly close attention to the contingent of defensive backs, defensive ends and offensive linemen. Scholarships are tight for Texas in 2013 so offers will be hard to come by.
Don’t expect nearly as many offers to be extended by Mack Brown as he did on Feb. 12. There could only be a couple handed out on Saturday.

Kennedale (Texas) linebacker Brett Wade’s interest in the University of Texas is relatively high. On a scale of one to 10 – with 10 being the highest – Wade said Texas gets an eight.
And that is before Saturday’s junior day, which could sell him even more on the Longhorns. Wade, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound inside linebacker, will be in Austin Saturday and hopes to get two important things out of the trip.
“An offer,” Wade said, “and just more looks around the school.”

It's safe to say that ESPNU Watch List member Vonn Bell (Rossville, Ga./Ridgeland) can play a little ball.
The 6-foot, 190-pound safety had never spoken to any member of Texas' coaching staff before today, but by 8:30 p.m. he had an offer.
"I called them eariler today and they said they were very interested," Bell said. "I wasn't sure if I had been offered the first time I spoke with them so I called them back and I asked if I had been offered and [defensive backs] coach [Duane] Akina said that I answered my own question."
