2015 RB Anderson scores new offer
By Sam Khan Jr.
Katy (Texas) High School running back Rodney Anderson has been to Texas A&M before, taking in a game last fall, but his experience in Aggieland for the "Friday Night Lights" scrimmage provided a bonus for the 2015 running back.
A scholarship offer.
After Anderson experienced the scrimmage and the atmosphere surrounding it, he went up to Kevin Sumlin's office for a visit and received the news that the Aggies were offering him.
"I was excited," Anderson said. "I didn't expect it. It was just exciting."
Anderson, a two-year varsity letterman who has played significant roles for Texas powerhouse and 2012 Class 5A Division II state champion Katy, spent plenty of time chatting with Texas A&M offensive coordinator and running backs coach Clarence McKinney while on the trip.
"I really like him as a coach and as an all-around guy," Anderson said. "He knows what he's talking about. It's the first time I got to meet him and talk to him so it was good. We had a good time together."
It is the third scholarship offer for Anderson, who has also been offered by Baylor and Texas Tech. Anderson will be competing at the Dallas Nike Football Training Camp on Sunday in Allen, Texas and still plans to hit college camps at both Alabama and Oklahoma this summer, he said.
The 6-foot-1, 196-pound running back said he might return to Aggieland on April 13 for the Maroon-and-White spring game. His experience on Friday left an impression on him.
"I don't know how to explain it," Anderson said. "It was breathtaking."
