Introducing the class: Alex Sezer

"Introducing the class" is a series in which GigEmNation conducts a Q&A session with each of the incoming recruits in Texas A&M's 2013 class to give readers a closer look at each recruit individually. Today, we visit with Orange (Texas) Little Cypress-Mauriceville running back Alex Sezer.
Athlete Alex Sezer will likely play cornerback for the Aggies.
Sezer is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound three-star prospect who will play cornerback for Texas A&M. As a running back, he ranked 67th nationally at the position and had a productive senior season for LC-M, compiling 1,286 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns on 210 carries.
Also a track star in high school, Sezer is known for his speed. He is one of nine Aggies who are mid-year additions to the program. He is one of four high school prospects who graduated in December in order to enroll for classes in January. Here's our Q&A with Sezer, who committed to the Aggies on June 18, 2012:
GigEmNation: What made you commit to Texas A&M?
Alex Sezer: "I would have to say the education and the coaching staff. When I took my visit, I knew they had a good education system but just talking with coach [Kevin] Sumlin and coach [Matt} Wallerstedt and the defensive backs coach [Marcel Yates], I really liked the coaching staff. I felt at home and I already knew a couple people here, so that's what made me commit."
GEN: How excited are you about the transition from running back to cornerback at Texas A&M?
AS: "I'm very excited. I think I have the skill set to be able to play and come here and help the team win games so I'm very excited to be playing defensive back."
GEN: I know track was a passion for you in high school as well. Is that something you plan to pursue at A&M?
AS: "I talked to coach Sumlin and we talked about it and he said that when he was recruiting me that they have a spot for me on the team and that I could run track if I wanted to. I've been thinking about it but with classes and football, I just want to focus on football so I can try to play early."
GEN: Describe your first meeting with Kevin Sumlin. What was your first impression?
AS: "He's a player's coach. He's here for us, he loves his guys, he talks to them. I can talk to him about anything, not just football."
GEN: What has life been like since you committed?
AS: "It's been kind of hectic, I guess you could say. People calling and that type of thing, wanting to know. But it was cool. I enjoyed it."
GEN: Do you have a favorite memory of Texas A&M yet, either from your trip or from watching them this season?
AS: "The Alabama game was nice. But hopefully my favorite memory will be a national championship this year."
GEN: What's your goal when you get to Texas A&M?
AS: "My No. 1 goal is to get my education and try to complete my master's degree in four years. No. 2 is team of course, help this team win a national championship. And individually, I want to be the best defensive back I can be and play early."
GEN: Do you have any superstitions or routines that you have before games?
AS: "Not really. I used to focus on what I ate and what I listened to when we won and that type of thing but it got kind of stressful. So in my senior year I was like 'You know what? I'm going to do anything and just go with it; just go out there and play and not worry about it.'"
GEN: Biggest influence on your success?
AS: "Probably my dad. He taught me from a young age to work hard and to honor God with everything that I did."
GEN: What's your favorite thing to do outside of football?
AS: "I like to work out, but I guess that's kind of football-related. Maybe track."
GEN: If you weren't a football player, what sport would you play?
AS: "I would be running track. I ran the 100 and 200. My best times [in the 200] were 20.6 and 20.9 handheld, and I ran a low 21.4 laser. In the 100, I ran a 10.2, 10.4 handheld and 10.6 laser."
GEN: What's on your pre-game music playlist?
AS: "A lot of Lecrae."
GEN: How have your accomplishments changed your life?
AS: "A lot of people know who you are. The benefits are amazing. You work a lot harder but at the same time, a lot of resources are available."
GEN: Biggest highlight in your playing career?
AS: "Probably my breakout game my sophomore year against Ozen [in Beaumont, Texas]. That was my first 100-yard game."
GEN: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
AS: "I see myself either playing in the NFL, most importantly I'll have my master's. [If not the NFL], in a perfect world I'll be working for Google or Apple and hopefully married with kids."
GEN: Major Computer and electrical engineering.
Favorite food: "Ice cream, bread pudding, cheesecake. I don't get to eat it but if I could, I would."
Favorite car: BMW.
Favorite NFL player: "Deion Sanders. He came in and basically invented the lockdown corner, I guess you could say. He took away half the field. He talked and he could back it up. You have to respect the man's game."
