Two stand out for Chris Williams
By Greg Ostendorf
ATLANTA -- Defensive lineman Chris Williams (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek) will end up with more than the two offers he currently holds from Ole Miss and Texas A&M, but there was no greater feeling than when he received that first scholarship offer from the Rebels early in his junior season.
Tyrone, Ga., junior defensive tackle Chris Williams is seeing plenty of interest pick up in his recruitment.
“It was amazing,” Williams said. “It was just a dream come true. They offered me on the phone, and he asked me how I felt about it. I told him I was speechless because it was random. It just came out of nowhere.”
Whether or not Ole Miss was on his radar before, it is now. The Rebels will always be in consideration because they were the first school to offer.
“They were the first school to recognize me, the first school to offer me,” Williams said. “I love the coaches. They’re pretty cool, down-to-earth guys -- Coach [Wesley] McGriff, Coach [Maurice] Harris, Coach [Hugh] Freeze -- I love them.”
Williams plans to visit Ole Miss in February. He’s also hoping to get to Texas A&M, the other school who’s offered, over the summer for a camp.
The 6-foot-1, 283-pound lineman is also talking to Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Michigan State, but he believes the next offer could come from Clemson.
“They love me,” Williams said. “They say I’m the next Montravius [Adams]. That’s why they haven’t offered me yet because of Montravius, but they like me a lot.”
