Aggies add juco TE Cameron Clear

By Sam Khan Jr.

For the second time in as many days, Texas A&M has scored a commitment, this time for the class of 2013 and from the juco ranks.

Arizona Western College tight end Cameron Clear became the latest member of the Aggies' 2013 class, giving his verbal pledge to A&M on Tuesday night.

Clear, a 6-foot-6, 285-pound prospect who originally signed with Tennessee out of high school, played 12 games as a true freshman for the Volunteers before transferring to Arizona Western.

He tweeted his intentions from his Twitter account on Tuesday night, saying "#AggieLand is my new home!"

Arizona Western coach Tom Minnick confirmed the commitment to GigEmNation.

"He's an SEC kid," Minnick said. "He's a big, physical, good-looking kid that everybody wanted. He did a great job for us blocking and we use our tight ends a ton."

Clear had offers from Oklahoma, Kentucky, Mississippi State and San Diego State in addition to the Aggies. He took an official visit to College Station, Texas, on the weekend of Nov. 16 for Texas A&M's game against Sam Houston State and last week to Oklahoma for Bedlam, but Minnick said it appeared Clear's heart was set on the Aggies.

Both head coach Kevin Sumlin and special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Brian Polian recruited Clear for the Aggies.

"They've been on him for quite awhile," Minnick said. "They did a good job. Any time you have a coach come out and visit and sit down and talk about a kid, they're showing interest. That shows you something, coming out here to Yuma, [Ariz.] and seeing a kid and it shows that you're really interested in that player."

Clear is the 32nd commitment in the 2013 class for the Aggies. On Monday, the Aggies scored a commitment from 2014 ESPN Watch List prospect Nick Harvey of Lancaster (Texas) High School.
