Texas A&M 10: Week 12
By Sam Khan Jr.
Johnny Manziel continued his push for the Heisman on Saturday.
Each week this season, GigEmNation will rank Texas A&M's top 10 performers of the season up to this point. Heading into the regular season finale, here's a glance at who has shined so far:
1. QB Johnny Manziel
The redshirt freshman quarterback did nothing to really slow his momentum in the Heisman Trophy race in Saturday's 47-28 win over Sam Houston State. Manziel was 14-of-20 passing for 267 yards and three touchdowns and an interception while rushing for 100 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Manziel became the first freshman and first SEC player to throw for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 in the same season.
2. DE Damontre Moore The junior had four tackles and a quarterback hurry, but wasn't able to register a sack or tackle for loss. He is still tied for the nation's lead in both categories though, with 12.5 sacks and 20 tackles for loss.
3. LT Luke Joeckel
Manziel was sacked only once on Saturday and the Aggies compiled 157 rushing yard thanks to the job done up front by the offensive line, including their junior offensive tackle.
4. RT Jake Matthews
Matthews also continued his season-long consistency with another good performance on Saturday for the Aggies. He has also been solid all year in long-snapping duties, though he had a high snap on a point-after-touchdown kick in the first half.
5. WR Mike Evans The redshirt freshman receiver looked as healthy as he has in weeks, catching six passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns. He caught passes of 33 and 20 yards in the win. He still holds the team lead in catches (67) and receiving yards (923), averaging 83.9 yards per game.
6. WR Ryan Swope
Swope's run of big games slowed on Saturday, as he caught one pass for six yards. He remains second on the team with 57 catches for 738 yards and a team-high six touchdowns.
7. LB Sean Porter
Porter had some nice impact plays on Saturday. He had a forced fumble and a fumble recovery all in the same play as he stripped the ball cleanly from Sam Houston State receiver Richard Sincere. Porter also had a tackle for loss. Porter is second on the team in tackles for loss this season (5.5) and tied for fourth in tackles with 55.
8. LB Steven Jenkins
Jenkins had four tackles and a pass breakup in the win over Sam Houston State. For the year, he's third on the team in tackles with 68.
9. C Patrick Lewis
The senior has been as consistent as they come from the center position and that continued on Saturday.
10. DT Spencer Nealy
The senior does a lot of dirty work, taking on double teams on a weekly basis, and his impact this year goes beyond the stat sheet. He has brought consistent effort and been a factor in the Aggies' success stopping the run from the beginning of the year.
