S Miles decommits from Tennessee

By Damon Sayles

With ESPN 300 safety Kameron Miles (Mesquite, Texas/West Mesquite), when an offer from Texas A&M came in, many thought it wasn’t a matter of if he’d decommit from Tennessee but how quickly.

On Wednesday, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound, four-star safety made it official, decommitting from the Volunteers and reopening his recruiting process. Chances are, the process won’t be a topic of discussion for long, as he has gone on record to say how much of a fan he was of Texas A&M.

“When I got that offer from A&M, I was excited,” Miles said. “I just felt like it gave me another opportunity to look at another school that’s got a new coach and a program that’s going in the right direction. Coach [Kevin] Sumlin’s a real cool coach.”

When asked about committing to A&M, Miles didn’t rule out a quick commitment. Whether he makes that decision instantly will be determined by a discussion with his parents.

As for Tennessee, Miles said he’s still a fan of the program and the coaching staff. The chance to play for a rising program -- in addition to possibly playing in the SEC a lot closer to home -- proved to be too good of an opportunity to consider.

“I don’t have anything against Tennessee,” Miles said. “I just feel like I have a better opportunity waiting for me.”

Miles is ranked No. 13 among safeties nationally and No. 36 among all players in the state of Texas in the Class of 2013.
